Electrical Engineering Department Award
The Electrical Engineering Department was awarded $100,000 by Texas Instrument for the University research project on Automated Test, Engineering Lecture and Lab course and to fund Texas Instrument Scholars.
Engineering students are excited about this award in what they feel is well deserved.
"I feel very proud of the engineering department because we put in a lot of time and effort into our work," said Derrick Flowers Junior Mechanical Engineering major and Baton Rouge native.
Flowers went on to discuss how he believes some of these awarded funds could be used on the computer labs in P.B.S. Pinchback Hall.
Texas Instrument and Southern University have a strong relationship because of the engineering program being one of the best in the country, and because of Southern University alumni Senior Vice President and Worldwide Manager Arthur L. George. Current Electrical Engineering Department Chair Dr. Hamid Majlesein explained how Mr. George plays a critical role in keeping this relationship in tact.
Former Electrical Engineering chair, Pradeep Bhattacharya , stated , "Dr. Arthur George decided to give some grants to Southern for scholarships starting at $20,000 then $30,000 and so on."
Majlesein also discussed how the annually awarded money for the research project and classes will help the ten T.I. Scholars become better trained.
Bhattacharya went on to mention how the automated testing, in the class modern analog and mixed signal technologies, consisted of working on how circuits are tested and on what future changes are likely. The official presentation of the awarded funds will be April 28th at 11:30am in Pinchback's high tech presentation room. All classifications and disciplines are welcome to attend the presentation ceremony.
